Luke & Lorelai Spoiler!

Here is the latest AA scoop on GIlmore Girls, answering the much awaited question about Luke & Lorelai:

Question: In the last podcast, you said that the story line on Gilmore Girls with Chris sulking and Luke helping Emily while Richard is sick has been "tweaked." Does that also mean that Lorelai’s resulting epiphany about the two men has also changed?
Ausiello: Turns out it was just a minor "tweaking." The story plays out the same way, with Luke running errands for Emily and Chris throwing a pity party for himself. But it’s my understanding that Lorelai’s epiphany will be more gradual. The end result, of course, will be the same: Luke in, Christopher out. Speaking of Episode 13, in a Gilmore first, nearly the entire hour will take place in the hospital. I hear there’s some great Lorelai/Emily stuff. It’s about damn time.

Gilmore Girls Recap: 7.10 “Merry Fisticuffs”

Chris and Lorelai in the kitchen - I am assuming she had a reno done? lol, nope. They are just "testing" a kitchen out on a real estate tour. It’s a nice place, but not funky enough for Lorelai I don’t think. Yikes, it’s not Stars Hollow! WTF is Chris thinking?

"Honey, I can’t imagine a better house." - Lorelai

Ok, who stole my Lorelai and replaced her with a polite, rather snooty woman who likes sculptured trees and marble sinks??

Well, at least she has some sense. She won’t leave Stars Hollow. And Chris gets the vibe that she doesn’t even want to move at all. She likes her house. At least Chris knows when to give up.

Lorelai goes over to see Emily to plan the wedding party. She introduces her to the party planner, Randall Farber. He used to work on Opera’s - sounds very over-the-top, hey?

Order number one: choosing a theme for the party. And Lorelai tries to say "it’s just a party" in front of the party planner. Hehe.

Kirk is at the diner trying to sell Christmas paper to Miss Patty, but she already bought hers from the school kids. Kirk says she got ripped off. Except his is going to his own charity - himself.

Liz arrives with the baby, Doula. Really cute. Liz asks if April is excited about being a cousin, and she is. Liz asks about Anna. Luke says he’s calmed down. Made a list of things he wants as a parent. Visitation agreement stipulations. Sounds reasonable and responsible. Liz thinks Luke should get a lawyer.

Then Liz leaves Doula with Luke for an hour. Ah, the look of panic on his face. Precious.

Randall is still showing his table settings. Most are fairly lame, don’t you think? Lorelai just wants to laugh at him, which is rather rude. Rory calls and Lorelai tries to use it as a help call to get out, but Emily overhears Rory. Rory was just ditching on her dinner plans with Lorelai to see Logan. And Lorelai confirms he’ll be at the party - she is "padding" the guest list. In the whole "double digits" now - so I guess she is still not inviting Stars Hollow folks.

Really, if Lorelai whined a lot less and just spoke up, that planning would have gone a lot faster. Maybe she’s more whiny because Chris is denying Lorelai her regular sugar intake. ;)

Chris and Lorelai have a very long and stupid talk in the market. Really nothing worth recapping. At the end of all the whining, Lorelai goes to wait outside while Chris pays for the groceries. Outside she runs into Luke walking Doula. They chat about the weirdness of her name and Luke is smiling a lot. No hostility.

Lorelai holds the baby and standing next to Luke they look like a perfect family! And then Chris walks out…

Rory takes Logan to the Yale Cafeteria, since he never had a meal there as a student. She tries to sneak him in with a family pass, but one of Logan’s friends spots him and slips out the girlfriend part. Almost $10 for a lunch pass?! That’s crazy.

Rory spots Lucy and introduces her to Logan. Again, another boring chit chat session. Bad writing. The only interesting part: "boyfriend" appears to get Lucy and freaks at seeing Logan. Lucy asks the inevitable "How do you two know each other?" but Marty evades with the bartending gig at Logan’s parties as the excuse. But Lucy opens her mouth again with the surprise that Marty and Rory never met.

Logan is just itching to ask WTF. Rory tries to explain how she went along with Marty first out of surprise, and then now just because she’s locked into a weird situation. And she provokes Logan’s jealousy by dropping that Marty still likes her and told her she’s beautiful. And he gets annoyed that Rory kept the entire thing, including Marty being back, a secret.

"Let’s make a baby" - Christopher

Lorelai thinks it’s a joke, but they try to talk about it. Here Lorelai says she "doesn’t know" if she wants another kid (didn’t she have plans for little kids with Luke?!). Anyway, she says "I guess", and Chris takes that for a "let’s do it right now" but Lorelai backs off and he gets offended. Chris’ first reaction is that they have the money for it, so why not? Um, yeah. It takes more than money to raise kids, plus they both have GiGi to raise now too. That decision can’t be made in 2 minutes!

Chris asks if Lorelai is unsure about their relationship now. She is offended at the accusation but still doesn’t understand the rush. It’s like he’s testing her commitment or something. And doesn’t like his results.

Kirk is being bullied by the middle school kids for outselling them. Prank calls, pizzas to his house. And now they come into the diner all "we want to talk, outside."

Luke calls to see where April is. She hasn’t shown up for their movie date. Anna wouldn’t let her go.

"Luke, you can’t just come to my house, threaten me, then just expect me to send April off to see you."

Then she says she doesn’t want April to see Luke. At all. And says it is her decision. Then hangs up.

Lorelai and Chris show up to the hall for the food and wine tasting for the wedding party. Chris has dropped all semblance of a sense of humor and is not happy with Lorelai’s jokes.

Emily expects Lorelai and Chris to exchange vows at the wedding "party", which in essence is another word for "ceremony", I think. Lorelai is angry. Says they just agreed to a party, not a wedding.

"A wedding is a party" - Emily

Emily says she wants to witness them be married. And Chris says it’s a good idea. He, of course, will take any affirmation of marriage from Lorelai at this point. And he becomes a big baby about how everything is Lorelai’s decision. He doesn’t think it’s a huge deal to just go along and get married again. Lorelai says they are already married. Then Chris tosses into Lorelai’s face the wedding she had planned with the "diner guy".

Luke goes to a lawyer. He doesn’t want custody, just his "list" of visitation rights. In order to get his "list", he must sue for partial custody. The lawyer doesn’t think he has a good chance since he wasn’t in April’s life until recently, even if that wasn’t his fault. Luke still wants to fight, try his best to make his case, even if he has little chance.

Luke’s jealous beating of a guy’s car might come back to haunt him in court. The lawyer suggests anger management classes. Luke doesn’t want it to get ugly - but are they ever anything but? Plus, he needs to decide fast to go forward or not - cross-state battles are harder.

Lucy, Marty, Rory and Logan are at the Indian restaurant for dinner. Logan is very aware of Marty and Rory’s discomfort. He then brings up people who have had crushes on Rory. Just kind of poking at the flame. Lucy brings up how hard working Marty is with 4 jobs and he tosses back:

"Hey, just waiting for that trust fund to kick in"

Ok, so Marty is even more obsessive than we thought. He "met" Lucy by stalking her. Creepy.

So, Lucy asks how Logan and Rory met. And Logan tells the truth. Marty introduced them. Then dishes the secret of Marty & Rory being friends. Lucy freaks, as she should. But I think Logan did the right thing. I don’t think it was jealousy, he’s fairly arrogant, but he was asked directly and he told the truth. Rory shouldn’t be mad, and she should have fessed the secret herself. But the night ends in a fight.

Rory calls home with the "boys suck" mantra. She thinks Logan did it out of jealousy. Nothing else there.

Lorelai is at the inn doing inventory while Chris closes out a bar. On Chris’ way back to his car (um, drinking and driving!), he spots Luke getting out of his truck. Chris storms towards Luke. Luke walks towards Chris. Scarf goes down. Jackets off.

Chris throws the first punch. Misses. Luke ducks under and hits Chris in the middle. Then punches him in the face. Chris goes down. Luke grabs Chris and throws him into a Christmas display. Chris barrels Luke down and pins him to the ground. Luke reverses it. They get up and stare each other down like bulls. They get in a few punches. Chris slams Luke into a Christmas tree. Ouch. Glass balls have got to hurt. They both crawl away. Nothing spoken.

Rory goes to see Lucy. Olivia answers. And slams her out. Rory walks away crying.

Lorelai comes home. Emily is waiting on the porch. She is concerned about Lorelai and Chris. She says Chris is immature. And their marriage won’t be perfect. That it’s about swallowing pride. Compromising. Things that Lorelai are not good at. She came to warn Lorelai not to let things fall apart.

Thanksgiving Leftovers

Thanksgiving Leftovers

Are you looking for some great ideas on ways to re-invent your Thanksgiving leftovers. The Food Network has had a lot of shows lately on this very subject and they are re-airing most of them on Friday, November 24th.

Most of them were also on last year and I actually tried some of the recipes. My favorite were from Paula Deen and Giada De Laurentis.

Also Kraft Kitchens has some leftover ideas, including Turkey Tetrazzini that is easy, tasty, and the family will love it.

Thanksgiving Breakfast

Thanksgiving Breakfast

I started a Thanksgiving Breakfast tradition at our house a few years ago.

Since we usually eat our Thanksgiving Feast around 2:00pm, we don’t have any lunch, so we need a hearty breakfast. I also wanted something a little special to sit down and eat while I watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

I came across a great idea, Pumpkin Pancakes or Waffles. Add 1/2 cup of canned or fresh pureed pumkin to your usual batter and adjust the flour and milk to the desired thickness. If you don’t have pumpkin that alreay has pumpkin spice, make sure to add a few sprinkles of nutmeg, clove and cinnamon (pumpkin spice). I usually add a few chocolate chips in there for my kids as well.

Along with the waffles, I get some maple flavored sausage, nice flavored coffee and some hot chocolate. It makes for a hearty breakfast and a special Thanksgiving morning.

If you need some Waffle 101 go to, who else, Martha Stewart.

Pumpkin Pie Cake

Pumpkin Pie Cake

Here is a great Holiday Season dessert recipe that is fast, easy, inexpensive and has loads of yummy flavor.

Every year my mother makes this Pumpkin Pie Cake. She thinks she got it off of a Libby’s Pie Filling Can a few years ago. It is very similar to Paula Deens’ Pumpkin Gooey Butter Cakes (which you can make a variety of ways). That is the recipe that is pictured above.

Pumpkin Pie Cake

(1) Large Can (1 lb. 13 oz.) Pumpkin

(1) 13 oz. can Evaporated Milk

(3) Eggs

(1) Box Yellow Cake Mix

(1) Cup Nuts (Pecans or Walnuts)

(2) Sticks Unsalted Butter

1 1/2 Cups Sugar

1/2 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. ginger

1 tsp. nutmeg

1/2 tsp. cloves

2 tsp. cinnamon

(You can buy canned pumpkin that already has the pumpkin spices in it. If you do, no need to add the spices. Just add the eggs and milk to the canned pumpkin.)

Preheat the oven to 350 F. Spray a 9×13 with Pam. In a large bowl, mix the canned pumpkin, evaporated milk, eggs and spices (if you did not get the pre-spiced canned pumpkin). Pour the pumpkin mixture into the 9×13 pan. Sprinkle the yellow cake mix over the pumpkin mixture and gently pat it down. Sprinkle over the cake mixture and then pour the melted butter over the top. Bake for 50 minutes or until set in the middle. Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. You can serve the cake warm or at room temperature.

50 Great Foodie Gifts: #1 Harry and David Gift Baskets

I thought that I would start the gift idea list with an idea that is very traditional, never out dated and always tasty, gift baskets from Harry and David.

Who are Harry and David?

Harry & David Operations Corp. was officially established in 2005 as an umbrella organization over the company’s fruit, rose, and other business ventures. However, the company really had its beginnings much earlier, just after the turn of the 20th Century.

Samuel Rosenberg, father of Harry and David, was a successful hotel owner in Seattle, Washington, but his true love was agriculture. In 1910 he traded the luxurious Hotel Sorrento for 240 prime acres of pears in Southern Oregon’s Rogue River Valley and named them Bear Creek Orchards after the nearby waterway.

Following Sam’s death in 1914, his two sons, Harry and David, took over the family orchard business. The brothers were schooled in agriculture at Cornell University and they put their agricultural training to good use. Harry and David decided early on to specialize in the Comice pear for which there was a good export market to the grand hotels and restaurants of Europe. The Rogue Valley proved even better suited to the Comice pear than its birthplace in France. Harry and David named their luxurious pears “Royal Riviera” to set them apart from varieties grown elsewhere. Throughout the Roaring 20’s, the fame of Royal Riviera pears spread, and business boomed.

Then came the Crash and Great Depression and Harry and David’s affluent market vanished. There was no question that the Royal Riviera pears were unsurpassed in quality, but how would Harry and David find new buyers? Always innovating, the brothers came up with the idea of selling their pears by mail. In 1934, they made their famous sales trips to San Francisco and New York to visit the captains of industry and pitch their pears as ideal business gifts. Soon orders were rolling in. It was the beginning of Harry and David as America’s premier direct marketer of fruit and food gifts. We are proud to be one of the nation’s oldest catalog mail order companies.

Today, the company continues to grow and plan for the future and develop new ways to capitalize on Harry & David’s brands and our reputation for unmatched quality and costumer service.

There is a large variety of ideas at the Harry and David website. You can choose from gift baskets, sweets, Fruit-of-the-Month Club, or check-out their Holiday Gift Guide.

They have gifts by the price and even last-minute gift ideas. Standard Delivery orders need to be placed by December 6, 2006 for Hanukkah and December 15, 2006 for Christmas. For further delivery information and dates go here.

While you place your gift order check about ordering something for yourself or your family. Maybe something to take to the family dinner or a treat for your Holiday Party table.

50 Great Foodie Gifts: #2 Meat Tenderizer

50 Great Foodie Gifts: #2 Meat Tenderizer

A Meat Tenderizer?

Yes, but not just any meat mallet. I just bought a Deni Meat Tenderizer and LOVE it. It is easy to use, works on meat, poultry, fish, and does a great job. It is a favorite of Alton Brown and Emeril.

The Deni Meat Tenderizer is easy to use and improves the taste and texture of any cut of beef, fish, or poultry. Just push the tenderizer over the top of the meat and let the razor sharp stainless steel blades do the work. By tenderizing beef, chicken, pork, lamb, venison, or fish, food will marinate faster and cook in no time.

Features:

  • Three rows of 16 stainless steel blades for a total of 48 blades.
  • For use on all cuts and grades of meat including pork, veal, lamb, venison, poultry, and fish.
  • Can be used on whole roasts, chickens, and turkeys.
  • Ideal for use when grilling, barbecuing, roasting, broiling, braising, and baking.
  • Less food shrinkage.
  • Protective plastic cover for storage and safety.
  • Reduces cooking time.
  • Marinate meats faster.
  • Dishwasher safe.

It works great and is only about $20-30. You can get this at the Deni website, Amazon and Shop.com.

There is also another company, called Jaccard which sells a similar product on Amazon, Food Network store and Bed Bath and Beyond.

50 Great Foodie Gifts: #5 Chocolate Covered Cacao

50 Great Foodie Gifts: #5 Chocolate Covered Cacao

Cacao is the actual bean from which chocolate comes from and a company based out of New York City, Sweetriot has the “peaces” for you.

The idea is fresh, fun, innovatative, “peace”ful and most important, tasty.

Cacao beans are where chocolate gets it start. Cacao, called by scientists “theobroma” or “food of the gods” is only grown naturally 20 degrees from the equator:

Cacao! (ka-Kow)
Cacao beans are the source of all chocolate and come from the healthy and magical cacao fruit. Cacao grows within 20 degrees of the equator in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. At sweetriot, we celebrate the bean for its purity and intensity of flavor. Rather than eating a processed bar, eat ‘peaces’ of the bean directly. Yum!

Cacao beans were so valuable that they were used as currency by the Aztecs and their importance is still vital today. Not only for the insatiable appetite of the chocolate consumer, but the value of the bean is significant to regions of the world that base their livelihoods on the bean.

Sweetriot not only provides the chocolate consumer with a unique product, but also is working towards celebrating the diversity of culture in our world and are striving to be a part of equitrading. Learn more about Sweetriot’s “Enlightened Trade” here.

So, be a part of the “riot” and send a gift or stuff a stocking. They have a variety of products. For the Holidays they have a special “Happy-Holly-Days Pack” and a “Hanukkah Pack”. If you are a business, a great way to give those bonus checks is attached to a Cacao Nib Tin or if you are having a holiday party, give cacao nibs as a party favor. Sweetriot has “Massive Gifting” available.

Great news is that Sweetriot’s Chocolate Covered Cacao Nibs are only 140 calories per tin, anti-oxidant rich, dairy-free, kosher and gluten-free.

Make sure to check-out Sweetriot and all their products. You can check to see if there are any local retailers in your area and if you are ordering on-line just remember that if you want gifts to arrive in time for Christmas, orders need to be placed by December 19. Top 10 Christmas Movies

Since I’m Jewish and don’t celebrate Christmas I thought I’d enlist the help of a friend to make this list. Here are Arieanna’s top 10 favorite Christmas movies:

1. The Santa Clause movies… The Santa Clause & The Santa Clause 2 - The Mrs. Clause. I love them! So looking forward to the third one. Of course, to get the full experience, you have to watch them back to back.

The Santa Clause (Full Screen Special Edition)The Santa Clause 2 - The Mrs. Clause (Widescreen Edition)

2. Miracle on 34th Street (new) & Miracle on 34th Street (old) - such a heartwarming story! I watch this every year. Absolutely every year. I like the new one because Mara Wilson makes the cutest little kid ever. Adorable.

Miracle on 34th StreetMiracle on 34th Street - Special Edition

3. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation - Ah, the Griswolds. Chevy Chase is a classic in this movie. I’m not a big National Lampoon’s fans for the other movies, but this one! Every year I continue to enjoy it. Oh, the cat! And getting caught in the attic!

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (Special Edition)

4. The Grinch (new) Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (old) - Jim Carrey won me over here, more than in any other movie. He just was the grinch. Whoville is cute to the point of cutesy sickness. ;)

The Grinch (Widescreen Edition)Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (50th Birthday Deluxe Remastered Edition)

5. The Polar Express Now, I will admit it wasn’t as great as I expected it to be. But the story is still very cute, and not like your traditional Christmas movie.

The Polar Express (Two-Disc Widescreen Edition)

6. Elf - shot here in Vancouver! Plus, my friend Eugene’s dad is an extra in the movie, so that’s pretty cool. Will Ferrell is hilarious though. ***This movie is os AMAZING! Even non Christians can enjoy this funny Will Ferrell movie!****

Elf

7. Prancer - Not many people actually remember this movie, but it’s an endearing story about a young girl who finds an injured reindeer and wants to return it to Santa. There is a sequel to it as well, Prancer Returns, but I don’t recall that one. OOOH, the first one is actually on TV tonight. Good timing!

PrancerPrancer Returns

8. Home Alone- Yeah, I know this is not so much a Christmas movie, but it is set at Christmas and does revolve around the Christmas holidays. I think the first is a classic, but am not as fond of the others (Home Alone 2 - Lost in New York & Home Alone 3)

Home AloneHome Alone 2 - Lost in New YorkHome Alone 3

9. The Original Television Christmas Classics- this is the first movie I ever remember about Christmas. I remember watching it when I was really little. It comes with all the classic stories: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town, Frosty the Snowman, Frosty Returns, The Little Drummer Boy. The Rudolph story is the only one I remember - a reindeer being ousted from his play fellows because his nose glows red finds a misfit elf - together they run into the Abominable snowman then later save Christmas. The story is really great.

The Original Television Christmas Classics (Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer / Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town / Frosty the Snowman / Frosty Returns / The Little Drummer Boy)

10. The last one I’ll slip in. Most people consider it as intriguing as It’s a Wonderful Life… Myself, I’m not that hot on it. The movie in question is A Christmas Story… I actually find it rather annoying! But to each their own.

A Christmas Story (Widescreen Two-Disc Special Edition)
